The Spirit (4/10)

It’s like a beautiful China vase; good to look at but hollow inside.

The trailer looked good with the black and white, the director of Sin City, the three beautiful actresses (just two in my case); there’s action, there’s Samuel L Jackson as the bad guy; everything looked good on paper.

Then the movie began, and it just left the audience waiting and waiting for something to happen. The wait never ended even after the movie did. Nothing happened.

It’s just visually pleasing, there’s no doubt about that, even the images of the movie look great. Every frame looked like moving art. But that’s not enough to demand attention span because the problem was, we’ve seen Sin City already. Nothing about this one was engaging. The story was a bore. L Jackson wasn’t anything new here. Scarlett Johansson was a waste. Eva Mendes of course was of no help.

As for Frank Miller, he looked lost without Robert Rodriguez. His storytelling here was draggy and aimless. His inexperience was really showing. I really had a hard time figuring out what’s happening.

Just release Sin City 2 already!
