This was just another satisfying Will Smith movie.
From beginning to end, it’s never clear what Smith’s character was really trying to do. A lot of misconception, a lot of misleading events. While that’s good, it may have taken a little too long to get to where it really was going though.
Perhaps the running time was too long, perhaps the misconception went on for too long; and that really cut off the steam because it got a little boring and I was waiting for it to reach its conclusion. The director could have really done better than force the audience to sit through so much emotional buildup that by the end it almost didn’t matter.
By the time we got to the “twist”, the best part about it was that the movie finally got there – even though it finally showed what’s good about this story as a whole. It has a very heavey subject matter, very emotionally-inducing, just the delivery needed some tweaking and cutting.
There’s no fault in Smith’s acting. I would say he was the one that made the movie worked with his powerhouse magnetism onscreen. Though his character looked really silly sometimes but it all came together in the end once all was revealed. It’s the getting to that point that’s challenging.
