(500) Days Of Summer
I was kind of waiting for this to come to Brunei but I gave up the wait when I saw it was also an option on the way from Dubai to Istanbul. This was a great story that depicted the true nature in a relationship. The ups and downs and the sweet and the bitter. There's no bull in the story development and progression - the skipping of the timeline probably helped greatly but that was a very smart and well executed gimmick. The two lead characters were very well written and very well acted. They were great characters with their own flaws and sweetness but they were never compromised in being real and genuine. You can see that they could be someone you know or even see their qualities in yourself. This is the best thing that a movie can do when its story is a drama about life. And I believed every scene in there. Well, almost. Having a little Chloe Moretz play a character that's wiser beyond her years in the movie that seemed to be an expert in relationships, that was another gimmick but hey, it wasn't bad.Joseph Gordon-Levitt was a great leading man in this movie and I hope to see more of him soon. He is a great actor that never has a big movie until now. I would categorise him the "nerd heroes" department alongside the likes of Michael Cera. I'm sure he's one to watch.I didn't like Zooey Deschanel at all in The Happening or anything before that. But I started warming up to her in Yes Man, and she has finally won me over here. She was perfect for her character. I guess this also show just how bad The Happening was.Sometimes when watching a movie and nearing its end, you'd want the movie to end in a certain way or you may not want it to end in a certain way, or even dread it would end in a certain way. I got that feeling in this movie, maybe because I liked the story so much. And in the end, it did not disappoint at all. Plus it has a great soundtrack to boot.Rating: 9 / 10
