Couples Retreat (4/10)

When you have funny actors like Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman and Malin Akerman; and none of the jokes achieved their intended effect, you can only really blame it on the writers and / or director. But I think director Peter Billingsley wasn't at fault. He created each scene quite well. So it's really on the writers because all the jokes in the dialogues were not funny at all. And two of the writers were Vaughn and Jon Favreau... and writing probably isn't one of their strong suits. The acting were good, some of the gags were really funny. But being a comedy, I really felt the comedic parts were executed poorly, and the drama was better. Couples may actually find some lessons to be learnt through the movie. The many cameos didn't amount to anything. I would have loved to see more of Ken Jeong and John Michael Higgins and see what else they can bring to the table but nothing actually happened with them, sadly. The premise had a lot of potential, but the story progression and execution really needed a lot of improvement. It could have been hilarious but it was just flat.
