Ip Man 2 (6/10)
Why oh why is Hong Kong still making movies where the Westerners are less than one dimension characters? It is like they are still in the 90's.It's just not convincing to have characters like that anymore. Sure you want to make the heroes look good but must you make the enemies such simpletons? It's not enjoyable at all to see characters like that. Especially when the actors overact every scene they have, the audience are hating them even more, perhaps at a different and unconscious level too. With such characters, the story suffered as well. There's nothing creative that can be brought to the table anymore. Only the first half of the story was good, when Ip Man was struggling with his own issues. But once the bad guys were introduced, everything went south. And I don't understand what Simon Yam came back for. He had less than five minutes total but in every minute he was an idiot. I can only hope they asked him back because he's got a bigger role in the next instalment. Although, looking at they ended with those closing messages, it seemed like there won't be any future for this. But hey, more inconsistencies have happened before.
