After another five or six years from the previous instalment, I wasn't feeling very positive about this. But I was pleasantly surprised because it was action packed and the action sequences were really good. That's all that matters in a Mission: Impossible movie.
This time with an all-new cast, it was very refreshing as well. Simon Pegg especially provided much needed comedy in the group. Paula Patton was surprisingly effective as well. Only Jeremy Renner whom I thought could have been anybody else.
Now, having said that the action sequences were done really well, however, the urgency introduced to every action sequence in terms of timing and time frame were a little dubious. For example, when Cruise's character Hunt was scaling the walls of the Burj Khalifa skyscraper, they wanted him back very quickly. And there I was left wondering, why was this so. Why couldn't he take another 10 minutes instead? Sure he had a meeting but surely he can be a little late.
And for almost every other thrilling scene in Ghost Protocol, there's always that unclear reason as to why the rush.
Another "thing" I had against the movie was how when Hunt received a pen drive and after surviving an attack and a chase, he immediately plugged it in and could do a full presentation without prior knowledge of the contents. That, as a presenter, was nothing short of amazing and unrealistic. Small issue I know, but it just ticked me off.
Nevertheless, as an entertainment and as the franchise goes, this showed that there is still hope yet for future instalments.
