Underworld: Awakening (6/10)

The much anticipated sequel that puts the extremely hot Kate Beckinsale back in a black PVC suit. And I do mean that literally because that's what happened when her character Selene first awoken. I, however, don't share this appeal as much as others.

But before that happened, there was a weak plot that saw Selene rushing, running and leaping, trying to save the hybrid Michael from bullets. What I didn't understand was, why was Michael, with bullets flying all over and around him, just stood there tearing his shirt to shreds? What's the point?

But as far as a vampire-action movie goes, this one was entertaining enough. The monsters looked scarier and definitely bigger - the Lycan played by Kris Holden-Reid definitely was menacing and intimidating.

However, I still found the action lacking for a movie of this monetary calibre and in this new year. There was a lot of throwing around and growling, but just not enough choreographed movements.

As for India Eisley, I thought she did brilliantly. The effects complimented her distorted face very much to make her look almost like something that just crawled out of The Ring.

But for the two other newcomers to the franchise, Michael Ealy and Theo James, I thought didn't have quite enough to do to be significant players in their own right.

Once again, like the two previous Underworld movies starring Beckinsale (not including Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans), the movie didn't boast a solid storyline. Some parts in the middle were actually boring and tedious.

Rather, the focus was again on the dark and grimy texture, where almost half of the movie was in a dull blue colour; and the ferocity of the CGI monsters and action.
