Denzel Washington is one of those actors who is great but has become very predictable in his acting. Nothing from him surprises me anymore lately and that's quite unfortunate.
Nevertheless, he is still a fine actor and always deliver. But in this movie, I was more drawn to Ryan Reynolds who, like George Clooney in The Descendants, was in a role that I've never seen him before. Very refreshing indeed.
This must be the biggest budget movie for director Daniel Espinosa. And he did well in creating adrenalin-filled moments and sequences. In fact, he did so well that he almost got away with a feeble story progression.
A lot of things that the characters in the movie figured out were just too extravagant. Things happened as needed so that the story could move forward and it's just a lot of lazy storytelling.
Vera Farmiga didn't do too much for me, but Brandon Gleeson - although in a somewhat predictable role - was a good addition to the cast.
A well made thriller but the writing can be improved.
