Total Recall (7/10)

I've heard some lousy feedback on this movie and after watching it, I thought it wasn't half as bad as what I've heard.

For one, the first half of the movie was exactly the same as the original. So if the original did that well, why the negativity surrounding it? For this was more like an updated version of the original. A 2012 makeover. And I enjoyed it.

The downside for me was around the third quarter of the movie, where things started to slow down and the progression got a little too convenient along the way.

But what this updated version did successfully was to give it just that, an update. In terms of action and CGI, all were done up to expectations. Especially in the last quarter where the intense action sequences were, it was all a feast for the eyes.

Perhaps what the original version had over this one was a stronger storyline where the emphasis were at all the right places. There was a stronger focus on Mars and a stronger focus on the intention and reasoning for Colin Farrell's character.

Both Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale were right for their characters. And Bryan Cranston was deliciously evil as the antagonist.

As a popcorn flick, I thought this did very well indeed; with a strong story that stayed quite true to the original, and stronger action sequences that were almost breath-taking.
