Endless Love (6/10)

This is one of those epic-wannabe love story depicting a love so strong between two beautiful people that's worth fighting for no matter what. It's meant to pull at your heartstrings and continue to give girls that false illusion of what their boyfriends should be. Though how the boy comes from nothing and has nothing never seems to be the key take-away though.

Directed by Shana Feste who has only two other movies under her belt, and considering that fact, has done quite a good job with this. The storytelling was successful in that I felt it achieved what it set out to be since I did feel.

However, progression wise could be smoother. Too much time was spent focusing on the interaction between the main leads, Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde. Both were adequate in their roles and worked well with their material. But too little focus was spent on how Pettyfer's character affected Gabriella's brother as we suddenly saw how he confided in Pettyfer out of the blue.

The supporting cast were good too though the struggles between Bruce Greenwood and Joely Richardson were not very clear and too subdued. I wouldn't mind seeing more of Robert Patrick but he had quite a small role.

But once again, the casting got that crazy Hollywood treatment whereby 18-year-olds looked more like 25 and above. Especially with Pettyfer's physique. I didn't mind his portrayal at all, just that he didn't look like an average 17 / 18 year old. Other than Wilde, none of the kids do.
