Need For Speed (5/10)

I liked Michael Keaton's performance and his character here. But I couldn't get behind his De Leon race.

If you have driven to Mendocino before, you'd know that some parts are just dangerous even without driving at high speeds. What I didn't understand was how Keaton's character could see what's happening during the race when he didn't have any live camera feed. And he didn't seem to care whether the drivers lived or died. That part of him didn't make sense. And same were the actions of the police - it's as if they were trying to kill the drivers.

There were a few more other loopholes as well. Even though I wasn't expecting any solid writing from a car movie, but still they irritated while I was watching them happen.

But the stupidest moment came when the crew was trying to fill up the tank of the car while they were driving at high speed. That whole sequence was just over-the-top ridiculous.

And for a car movie, it really shouldn't be about two hours long. The drama with the whole bounty section was really unnecessary and took up too much time.

Aaron Paul was great though and he carried the movie. I have never found Imogen Poots interesting, and that's how she started as well. But like how her character developed, she began to grow on me like how she grew on Paul's character. That was one of the few good points of the movie.

As for the racing, it was alright. I guess.
