Rio 2 (4/10)

The original Rio had heart and a great moral to the story about Blu learning to fly. But now that he's done that, Rio 2's weaker story never really took flight.

Not just a weaker story but nothing about Rio 2 felt inspired. It felt like the creators had to squeeze this one out just because the first one made a lot of money and this one was more of an obligation to the studio.

There wasn't a great moral to learn, the jokes were flat and I could have done with 20 minutes less. I almost didn't laugh at all the entire time watching it.

I find no fault in the whole cast who did what they had to do. It was just the script itself was barely enough to keep me entertained.

The few songs felt forced into the story even though they were fun numbers. Kristin Chenoweth's singing was most entertaining here, and her coupling with Jemaine Clement as the bad duo had the most interesting story even though their parts always ended very dark. I didn't even think it was suitable for kids.

I'm quite done with this franchise. The movie looked as boring as the trailer did to be honest.

But I'll say this. Bruno Mars voicing Roberto was not as bad as I thought it would be, except until the last couple of scenes he had to do.
