Cop Out (4/10)
First of all, I want to know why Kevin Smith would direct this. He didn't even write it and it's out of his wheelhouse.
I didn't like his direction, especially when it came to action scenes - it's not even complex action sequences, just shooting and ducking. And they turned out looking silly.
I didn't like the writing as well, especially the beginning when Tracy Morgan was spewing out dialogues from other movies and Bruce Willis was naming them. Willis didn't look entirely convincing in those sequences, they didn't suit him.
The jokes felt old. And the funniest bits were already seen in the trailer. Maybe if I had watched this back in 2010 when it was released, maybe I might have liked it a little better.
Being a buddy cop movie and usually in this genre, the two characters have great chemistry together. That was not entirely the case here. Their "nemesis", the other pair of buddy cops in Kevin Pollak and Adam Brody, shared better chemistry together and a little more fun to watch.
Guillermo Diaz acting as the crazy antagonist wasn't too bad. As well as the few cameos like Fred Armisen and Jason Lee, they were quite funny. But Seann William Scott had the best lines and best impact.
