New Star Trek Director Named

(Picture sourced from holllywoodreporter.com)
With J. J. Abrams leaving the Star Trek franchise as a director to go direct another sci-fi movie with a similar title, he leaves behind great shoes to fill to conclude the first Trek trilogy.

Enter Roberto Orci, writer of the first two films and others such as Transformers, The Legend Of Zorro and Mission: Impossible III. He was also responsible for hit TV series like Fringe and Alias, and acted as producers for many other movies as well.

The only problem is, he has never directed anything before. So to hand him a USD 200 million movie as his first feature debut, risky is an understatement.

However, the studio seemed to be confident enough in him to let him take the reigns. Also, he has been with the Star Trek franchise since day 1. So he knows this world like the back of his hand since he helped create it. Here's hoping that would translate completely into his direction.

Even though I'm a Star Wars fan through and through and have never touched Star Trek until recently, I have begun to like it a lot under Abrams vision (especially after Benedict Cumberbatch was so fantastic in Into Darkness) and would love to see this franchise continue to flourish.
