2 Movies About J. R. R. Tolkien In The Works
What with the final movie of The Hobbit / The Lord Of The Rings franchises coming out later this year, there will be no other material directly from J. R. R. Tolkien that can be adapted. (The Silmarillion has been said to be impossible to adapt to the big screen.)
The only thing left is to tell the story of the author himself. And not 1, but 2 movies are currently in the early stages of getting developed.
Fox Searchlight have announced that they will be making a story about the author, aptly titled, Tolkien; from a script by Irish writer David Gleeson. No further detail given on the project.
And a smaller independent studio, the London and Brisbane based Attractive Studios, is now trying to beat Fox Searchlight to the release date with another version which tells the story of the friendship between Tolkien and another famous author that you have probably heard of, C. S. Lewis. The title of this version also aptly titled, Tolkien & Lewis.
This version of the story will take place at the beginning of World War II, where Tolkien and Lewis were colleagues in the University of Oxford. Both authors had played an important part in the other's completion of their most popular series, The Lord Of The Rings and The Chronicles Of Narnia.
Just that short synopsis has already made me very interested to want to see this story unfolds. I didn't care for the Narnia movies but The Lord Of The Rings trilogy has such a place in my heart, both the books and the movies, that I just want to find out how Lewis has encouraged Tolkien to finish the decades-long project.
