The Boxtrolls (8.5/10)

The opening sequence opened up this world of the Boxtrolls to its audience, and minute by minute you just couldn't help but fall in love with it.

In less than 10 minutes, we got to learn who the Boxtrolls were and what they loved doing. And then we saw what their relationship with the humans were. In that first 10 minutes, I was sold, and I fell hard for it.

I'm so glad that I didn't know much about this movie going in. And I'm glad the trailers I saw also didn't show much of the storyline. To discover what it was all about was the magic of it.

The only downside, and this is me being very picky; and if you don't want to read a potential spoiler please jump to the next paragraph, was that it was illogical to have the character Eggs spoke English that perfectly.

No doubt this was no original story by any measure, but how it was told, the humour injected, the drama, the thrills and excitement, they were so beautifully done - using motion-capture no less.

I thought Ben Kingsley was superb voicing the antagonist. And Elle Fanning for some reason is becoming more British than American, was spot on as her pompous and spoiled character. Other great voice acting included Richard Ayoade whom I adored in this role, Jared Harris and Nick Frost.

Simon Pegg, Tracy Morgan and Toni Collete also had minor roles but they were quite insignificant unfortunately.

But the main star for voice acting was Isaac Hempstead Wright who can be seen in Game Of Thrones. He was the heart and soul of this movie.

Adapted beautifully by Irena Brignull (who is currently working on The Little Prince! Yes, I'm excited) and Adam Pava from Alan Snow's novel Here Be Monsters!, and directed by Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi who has never worked on anything this big, all of them have done well to bring this to the big screen.

I hope this gets an Oscar nod for Best Animation.
