DC Is All-In With Confirmed Dates

Yesterday I just had a long post about how Marvel's Civil War could be the shake-up Marvel and Disney needed to go toe-to-toe with DC should Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice be considered even just good. DC is very capable of leveling the playing field even after what Marvel's 10 movies over a span of 8 years have built for them.

But even before Marvel could confirm a Civil War is indeed coming, DC has dropped a very significant line-up onto the dates they have confirmed earlier.

This was what Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara has revealed at the Time Warner Investor Day:

6 May 2016 (Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice)
5 August 2016 (Suicide Squad)
23 September 2016 (Lego Ninjago)
18 November 2016 (Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them)

26 May 2017 (The Lego Batman Movie)
23 June 2017 (Wonder Woman)
10 November 2017 (Justice League Part 1)

23 March 2018 (The Flash)
25 May 2018 (The Lego Movie 2)
27 July 2018 (Aquaman)
? ? 2018 (Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them 2)

5 April 2019 (Shazam)
14 June 2019 (Justice League Part 2)

3 April 2020 (Cyborg)
19 June 2020 (Green Lantern)
? ? 2020 (Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them 3)

Maybe the most surprising franchise from this ever-impressive line-up is the Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. We all know that this movie is coming but this is the first time a confirmation of the trilogy is announced. Written once again, of course, by J. K. Rowling and will all be directed by David Yates (who did the last four Harry Potter movies).

On a previous post I mentioned that we won't be getting The Lego Movie sequel until 2018 because of the newly announced The Lego Batman Movie taking over the 2017 spot, and indeed there it is in May.

From the DC front, we heard briefly about a Suicide Squad movie being developed from the DC camp; and to be directed by David Ayer. Well, Ayer is indeed confirmed. But what about the news that just broke saying DC is eyeing A-listers to fill the Squad? And they are circling the names of Ryan Gosling, Margot Robbie, Will Smith and Tom Hardy.

Do note that this is just a wish-list. But even if one of them sign on, it'll a big plus to the Suicide Squad. And Robbie's name is a good one - and a more plausible one at this point to confirm first.

Another surprise here would be Justice League splitting into two parts, and both directed by Zack Snyder, by the way. Obviously a bigger plan and a bigger story taking place in Justice League right now. But how come it isn't back-to-back though?

DC has also boldly announced the names of the other DC leading men. We already know Gal Gadot is Wonder Woman, and Dwayne Johnson is Black Adam in Shazam. The Flash will be portrayed by Ezra Miller. Jason Momoa is also confirmed as Aquaman. And finally, Ray Fisher is to play Cyborg.

No word yet on who the new Green Lantern would be; but being a reboot, it's probably a definite that Ryan Reynolds will not reprise this role.

Both Superman and Batman solo movies are also coming, but no dates yet as of now. Does this mean no Superman or Batman movies until after 2020? Or could we be getting 3 DC movies in a year to duke it out with Marvel, too?

So, it's been a long time coming. I've been calling out DC after every Marvel success story, and they've finally got their act together.

As I make mine Marvel, let the competition with DC begin!
