Gone Girl (9/10)

I don't care what anyone says, Gone Girl is a horror movie. And it's the best horror movie of the year so far!

For a running time of more than 2.5 hours, I didn't want it to end. David Fincher is a master. He kept building and building and he kept the story and subplots so interesting. I was hooked right from the beginning.

The first half kept the audience guessing. The second half kept the audience astounded.

And that final shot at the end, even though it was a repeated scene, it sent chills down my spine and the hairs on my arms stood up. Yes, this was a horror, a psychological horror.

Rosamund Pike was a revelation here as she gave her performance of a lifetime. She has got to be a contender for the next Oscar. She astounded me over and over. And she scares the heck out of me.

The casting seemed to be perfect. Tyler Perry, Neil Patrick Harris, Carrie Coon, Kim Dickens and Casey Wilson were all on point. It was a nice touch to get Wilson and Harris to be made fun of. It's such a subtle touch and they brought subtle humour into an otherwise very serious dramatic roles. And their characters added so much layering into the movie.

The pacing seemed to slow down a little bit in the beginning of the second half but that's when Fincher started building somewhat from scratch again only to end in another culminating arc.

This was an amazing journey from start to finish. Definitely not for the faint of hearts as Pike and Fincher tore our minds open.
