Sony Pulled The Interview Movie After North Korea Threats

At first, everyone was making fun of the fact that North Korea wasn't very happy about the imminent release of Sony's The Interview, starring James Franco and Seth Rogen on a secret mission into North Korea to assassinate its president / dictator Kim Jong Un while pretending to interview him.

At first, the talk was "there is no such thing as bad publicity". This was, after all, a satire.

But today, we just learned from slashfilm.com that the recent Sony hack, where a lot of private documents and emails were leaked online, were traced back to North Korea. And we also just found out that, the hackers are demanding that cinemas not to show this movie, or will be targeted for repercussion reminiscent of 9/11.

Apparently, shit just got real.

Most cinemas has canceled the showing of The Interview, leaving Sony little choice but to cancel its release next week.

Even though Homeland Security (very serious department for security like the TV series "Homeland") has denied any real threat, cinemas in the United States are not taking any chances for fear of the repercussions should the threat be real.

Such a shame though, I was really looking forward to this crazy movie; as well as Randall Park's portrayal of Kim Jong Un. Will it ever get a theatrical release some time down the line? Maybe. But will not be so soon though.

Worse still, Sony has no plans to release this even on DVD so we may never see it. But I believe once the dust has settled, we'll get the movie one way or another.

This cannot come at a worse time for Sony as the company is undergoing so much stress where every department has been facing bankruptcy - except for the movie division. This is also another reason why The Amazing Spider-Man franchise is also undergoing some talks on restructuring. A lot of fans have been voicing out saying Sony should return Spider-Man to Marvel, just in time to include him in Captain America: Civil War, in which Spider-Man played a pivotal role in the comics.

I guess I will be starting to look out for a bootleg version of The Interview from now on.
