Ghost In The Shell has recently acquired Scarlett Johansson as their lead, as well as Rupert Sanders as their director.
Walt Disney Pictures has announced two days ago that DreamWorks Pictures will be producing the live-action adaptation of Masamune Shirow's manga series and will be released on 14 April 2017. Steven Spielberg, being a long-time fan of the series, will act as one of the producers.
I would have thought this movie would come out before the end of 2016, but I think it's clear now that pre-production for this movie barely started. 2017 feels like a long way to wait.
