The Theory Of Everything (9/10)
I was happy to have found out that The Theory Of Everything was still showing in Malaysia so I was able to catch it in Pavillion. Especially after witnessing Eddie Redmayne won the Best Actor category at the Golden Globe for his portrayal of the great Stephen Hawking. Not that the Globes are anything close to the prestige of the Academy Awards but still an acknowledgement of course.
Johann Johannsson also won for Best Original Score, which I thought was a brilliant background accompaniment to the movie.
But if Malaysia is playing it, why aren't we getting it here though... I wonder if it's because Hawking was an atheist in his earlier days.
Redmayne's portrayal was beautiful and heartbreaking. The audience were able to see the sickness took over without him knowing first, and when we first saw his speech difficulties, and because of how James Marsh directed and told the story, it was a tear-jerking affair.
But if Redmayne's portrayal stood out so strongly, the same could be said about the character of Jane Hawking - an equally incredible commendable portrayal by Felicity Jones - who took on that challenge of loving and caring for the ailing Hawking. The strength to be the wife and mother to so many kids, I was mesmerized by these characters and their stories.
I didn't think I would love this movie as much as I did but I probably wouldn't watch it a second time so soon. But Redmayne definitely should be the front runner for all best actor awards at this point.
