Sigourney Weaver Back For Alien Sequel

After the news last week that Neill Blomkamp will be directing the next Alien movie, yesterday we learned that Sigourney Weaver has confirmed to come back to the franchise.

One of the things that Blomkamp talked about was that he saw a need to finish off the Ripley character's storyline properly. And Weaver was also agreeable.

I don't think 20th Century Fox is looking for just a one-off, so if this does well, it will definitely be a passing of the torch to a new generation by Weaver as well.

Also what's interesting is that Blomkamp is going to disregard Alien 3 and Alien: Ressurection. Much like how Bryan Singer wiped out X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine from the X-franchise with X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

Time has really changed now where studios are no longer afraid to do drastic changes to their franchise if there is a good opportunity to do so in order to create a better future.

So in the next installment of Alien, Ripley would never have died (Alien 3) and never had a clone of herself (Alien: Ressurection). Let's see if Blomkamp decides to kill her off instead.
