Spider-Man And Marvel Crossover Updates

New reports are still coming in today after one of the biggest news broke yesterday in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

With Spider-Man now having the freedom to crossover from Sony to Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe, almost everything can happen.

And Variety has an even more interesting report, which states that the total number in dollars that has been exchanged between Sony and Marvel for this deal to happen was... zero. Marvel is paying Sony nothing to use one of the most iconic and most recognisable superheroes in any of their movies, and Sony is paying Marvel nothing to have Kevin Feige act as producer in future Spider-Man movies.

Another thing to note was the official word that came out yesterday, which said along the lines of how Sony can now bring Marvel into Sony's Spider-Man world. Funny how it specifically didn't say bringing Spider-Man into the MCU instead. So does this mean that we'll see characters from MCU appear in Spider-Man more than Spider-Man will appear in Marvel's movies?

However, there will be no profit sharing. Profits from a Marvel movie will stay with Marvel and the same goes to Sony's Spider-Man. This simplifies things a whole lot.

Nevertheless, what's confirmed is that Spider-Man will appear in one of Marvel's movies first before having his solo movie produced by Sony. And while nothing is confirmed, speculation is saying that he will indeed be in Captain America: Civil War (whereas my own speculation was Doctor Strange).

But on hindsight, Sony has been in financial troubles for about a year already. And if Feige has approached Sony much earlier, he could have had his Civil War writers add in one draft which included Spider-Man in the mix. That's always a possibility. And therefore, no rewrites may be needed now and production for Captain America 3 can still go on as planned.

Also, not confirmed but it has been reported that the other spin-off movies such as Sinister Six, Venom and the first female-led movie from Spider-Man's universe are all still going to happen. However, no dates were given.

What's confirmed though, is that Andrew Garfield will not reprise his role because Feige and Amy Pascal are now going with a younger Peter Parker. Logan Lerman (Fury), Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) and Zac Efron (Neighbors) are rumoured for this role so far.

Obviously, The Amazing Spider-Man storyline is cancelled.
