Star Wars Episode VIII Forces Fantastic Four 2 To Move
Following the announcement from Bob Iger on the first spin-off movie title, Rogue One, as well as the confirmation of Episode VIII; we now have a confirmed release date for the new trilogy's sequel as well.
Star Wars Episode VIII, currently still without a title, but Rian Johnson is hard at work writing the script and will also direct; will be released on 26 May 2017.
The Star Wars saga originally belongs to the summer season, but Episode VII, The Force Awakens, was pushed back to December this year because J. J. Abrams wanted more time on post production.
So now, Episode VIII is back to the franchise's original summer schedule - partly also because 26 May 2017 will be the 40th anniversary (plus one day) of the first Star Wars movie, A New Hope, back in 1977.
On the heels of this news, the recently announced The Fantastic Four 2 - originally to be released on 2 June 2017 - has been delayed by one week to 9 June 2017 to avoid the behemoth that is Episode VIII.
This is a wise decision by 20th Century Fox as Episode VIII is sure to dominate the box office for the first couple of weeks and there really is no point to go up against it, considering also that both movies are likely to attract the same type of audience.
