Jason Bateman is another one of Hollywood's most underrated actors today. I thought his directorial debut, Bad Words, was quite a gem. Then again, I've only seen Bateman in comedies.
But watching the first trailer of The Gift, a slow-burn thriller I suspect, I really don't know if I would bother with this movie had it not been Bateman and Joel Edgerton. I know these two would give great performances but it really depends now on the script.
And it's Edgerton's first full-length directorial debut, from a script he wrote. I'm guessing he's pulling out the "friend" card and getting Bateman and Rebecca Hall to do this movie?
The Gift will be released 31 July 2015, and it will open against Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and Southpaw. It's going to get swallowed by those two.
