Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 (4/10)

I wanted to at least have a good time laughing at Kevin James in this sequel. The first half did well in that respect, but the second half was the downfall.

In the first half, all the inconsequential jokes were on point and made me chuckled or even laughed out loud. James' acting was splendid and funny and he nailed the character once again. The way he was oblivious and made assumptions he wouldn't back down from had a lot of charm. You didn't even disliked him for once.

But strangely enough, it was the second half that was a let down. Once the action started, once things started to get real, and once he started caring; that's when everything became bland and repetitive.

The action sequences was so boring that I couldn't wait for the movie to end. His posse that came to the rescue, while almost had redeeming elements to them by being very lucky in hand-to-hand fights, was never quite satisfying. A lot of loopholes that made me wondered if a better decision could have been had in certain situations took me out of the movie a lot of times.

Neal McDonough was a wasted talent here. He wasn't scary nor formidable, and his character seemed to have written in as a throwaway antagonist that was just there to serve James' Paul Blart.

It's just a shame that the movie got boring after a strong start. I was even thinking that could this be one of those movies that the critics all hated but I enjoyed. And that peacock scene was too random and already appeared in the trailer so it was no longer funny. It actually took up too much time.
