Laurence Fishburne To Direct The Alchemist Adaptation
Laurence Fishburne has been working on the big screen adaptation of Paulo Coelho's bestselling novel, The Alchemist, for years now.
The novel itself sold over 65 million copies worldwide and has been adapted to 56 different languages, holding the Guinness world record of being the most translated work by a living author.
This has been a passion project of Fishburne who bought over the rights from Warner Bros. in 2007 and now The Weinstein Company will push the project forward together with Fishburne.
Deadline has also reported that Idris Elba is in talks to star.
I love this novel. It's definitely one of my favourites. And to see it up on the silver screen will be a real treat, especially with a caliber like Elba starring in it.
Fishburne's last directed movie was back in 2000 with Once In The Life, in which he wrote and starred as well.
No word yet on a release date for The Alchemist.
