Paper Towns (7/10)

Author John Green's follow-up to his first Hollywood success of The Fault In Our Stars is this summer's coming-of-age flick, Paper Towns.

Starring the co-star of The Fault In Our Stars, Nat Wolff, and Cara Delevingne; and this time directed by Jake Schreier. His first full-length feature, Robot & Frank, was another heart-warmer.

What worked most were these characters created by Green. Wolff's character was the nerdy underdog that is so easy to root for. And Delevingne's character was this interesting girl-next-door that's full of intrigue and almost speaks in poetry.

With Schreier's storytelling, the first part of the movie has made the audience fall in love with the two main characters. What followed didn't matter as we're all eating out of the palm of his hand by then.

Another factor that worked very well for the movie was the chemistry between the cast, specifically between the three friends played by Wolff, Justice Smith and Austin Abrams. You believe they have been friends all their lives and they make the story that much more believable.

The only thing that kind of dragged on a bit too long was the road trip for me. The pacing slowed down towards the end and I thought it could have been tighter to keep the beat going. Also, the time frame for Wolff to get back to prom wasn't clear at all.

This wasn't as great as The Fault In Our Stars but it's still a very good movie. I particularly liked the message that Wolff didn't get the first time, which was the gift given by Delevingne for him and his friends to go on that road trip. But I really liked the way it ended.
