Chloe Grace Moretz To Play The Little Mermaid
Universal Pictures and Working Title Films are developing a live-action version of The Little Mermaid.
Richard Curtis, writer of About Time, Notting Hill, Love Actually and the Bridget Jones movies, is writing the script. And I can see what he did for About Time, with those elements of mysticism, translate very well to a version of The Little Mermaid.
According to Variety, the studios are adamant about Chloe Grace Moretz playing the titular character, who has been confirmed for quite a while but never announced; which led to the recent departure of director Sofia Coppola because she didn't want to go with a familiar name as the lead.
So now the studios will have to find a director to take on this project, probably before they can move forward with the rest of the casting decisions.
I've been a fan of Moretz's ever since her Kick-Ass days; but as Ariel? I'm still not sure yet. Depends on what kind of Ariel this is going to be, doesn't it. But I am excited for The Little Mermaid movie as it's one of my favourite Disney cartoons. I hope it's a musical too!
