"Scheduling conflict" was the reason given at the time; and now, perhaps that reason was accurate - or both remains completely false, as Fox Searchlight has closed the deal with Stone to star as Billie Jean King in the historical tennis match between an aging Bobby Riggs against a younger King.
Variety has reported that Stone's schedule has now been worked out in order for her to take on the role.
The script is written by Simon Beaufoy and will be directed by the filmmakers of Little Miss Sunshine, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.
No word yet on a release date, but also watch out for two other similar projects by different production houses. Proof, under HBO and Playtone, is set to star Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti; while Chernin Entertainment will star Will Ferrell to play Riggs.
