Shu Qi's The Assassin First Trailer

Finally, a director willing to cast Shu Qi in a role that isn't her typical pouting and childish act.

But to be fair, director Hou Hsiao Hsien has cast Shu in a few other roles much earlier than this but I've never seen any of those. And Hou seems to be quite a well-known artistic director, just that I've never had the privilege to watch anything he's done before.

I only happened to stumble across this trailer and, other than the hype and rave from film festivals including Cannes; the cinematography and the composition of every shot were beautiful and purposeful at the same time. And the frame itself is noticeably shorter than the standard widescreen one.

This time Shu seems to be a stone-cold killer, and that shot of her walking out the door but turning around just in time to deflect a projectile; she looks very well directed by Hou.

The movie, which also stars Chang Chen has already opened in China, and I'm not sure if it ever came to Brunei but I doubt so. Unless it only ran for like a week, I would have seen its schedule being advertised.

It should be opening up in the US soon as it's the official Taiwan entry to the Academy Awards of 2016.

Check out the trailer and poster below.
