Spectre - Review (6/10)

Daniel Craig's final James Bond movie? Quite likely. Why? Because he didn't even look interested in filming Spectre!

Maybe it's not entirely his fault. The writing team did such a horrible job when compared to the standards to the last Bond film, Skyfall.

And such a waste too, because when you have Monica Bellucci, Christoph Waltz and Dave Bautista in the lineup, the writers did not capitalise on their talents at all.

Sure, Waltz was on fire whenever he's onscreen; but he only had about 3 or 3 1/2 scenes out of the entire movie. Bautista's character wasn't just a brute. But the writing didn't allow him to have any kind of development in his character or let the audience know what motivated him. And Bellucci was just there for Bond to remove her clothes? Come on! And she wasn't wearing any corset before sex, but then she put it on after sex? Crazy.

There were quite a few times that I got completely bored as well. The tone of the movie was very inconsistent, especially when Bond was with Lea Seydoux's character. Sometimes I felt like the movie just crawled.

I think it came down to Sam Mendes' direction which was very inconsistent. The action parts were good, still felt very realistic. But when things slowed down, he couldn't make me care about what's happening onscreen.

As I'm not a big fan to begin with, I did not have a lot of high hopes going in. But even then, I'm still disappointed.

As for the marketing, I thought it was a mistake to focus so much on that skull of a mask. That carried no significance at all after the opening of the movie!
