Exposed - Review (2/10)
Exposed wasn't just a bad January movie. It's a horrible movie no matter which way you see it.
If I, Del Goh, were to be given a movie to direct today, it will most probably be like Exposed. The director Declan Dale, who also wrote the script, had no direction, no style, and no vision. It's as if he had an idea for a movie, but had no idea how to execute it.
The scenes were shot individually with no continuity in mind. They were then stitched together, and Dale probably just prayed that they will look consistent and smooth. Well, Dale, they did not.
I couldn't tell if this was a religious movie or not because the plot was never clear. Why even bring in supernatural element when they were not going to affect the storyline? And there were so much misdirection that probably only a quarter of the scenes in the entire movie was relevant to the main plot.
The big reveal in the end jumped out of nowhere because everything was so disjointed. Even when everything made sense, everything that came before was already so bad that nothing was going to save it from being a disaster.
The only light came from the very impressive and believable performance of Ana de Armas, whom I thought should be getting more job for her talent and gorgeous face. She always lighted up the screen and when she cried you could feel her emotions. But she was the only one acting. Keanu Reeves was still deadpanned as ever and badly directed. And here I thought he was back in another action thriller, just like John Wick.
The movie progression was so bad that I wanted to walk out many times but didn't have anything else to do so thought I stuck around to see what the supernatural beings were, and no answer ever came.
