Room - Review (8/10)

Room has one very unique plot and it's excellent. It's also a reminiscence of Gone Girl, having two parts to the story.

The director, Lenny Abrahamson, did a great job in keeping the tone of the movie consistent throughout the two parts and present two very different psychological points of view.

Brie Larson was brilliant in her portrayal of a mother and a survivor, while still showed desperation and vulnerability; presenting a very realistic character in that situation.

But the highlight of this movie was young Jacob Tremblay playing the son. His wide-eyed and innocent portrayal was nothing short of spot-on and that was also credit to Abrahamson for pulling this performance out of Tremblay.

What I discovered thinking back now was that I enjoyed the first half too much that the second half didn't quite catch up to the intensity of the first, but for all good reasons. The second half took a turn that, though still filled with purpose, was a dip as compared to the highlight of the first.

But as far as performances and storytelling go, it still captured the essence of the story with a few other great performances added in that were touching and moving.

The ending however was powerful and had a proper and satisfactory closure to it all.
