Trainwreck - Review (8/10)
The movie that made Amy Schumer on everyone's radar; well, everyone that saw the movie Trainwreck, that is.
Schumer wrote the script with Judd Apatow directing, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked the movie.
Schumer's writing and acting were all spot on, and the way she wrote characters for LeBron James and John Cena were hilarious. I thought Cena performed better than James did, but both still served their purpose well and hit their mark, under great guidance from Apatow.
Tilda Swinton and Randall Park both provided great supporting acts, and Swinton benefited from a lot of crazy one-liners. This was a side of her that I have never seen before and was pleasantly surprised again. But I wasn't as enthusiastic about Vanessa Bayer's appearance as Schumer's co-worker and Brie Larson was the sensible sister, but didn't shine at all.
Bill Hader as the male lead here wasn't as charismatic as would normally a leading man in a rom-com, but this wasn't a straight up rom-com; it was just a "com". And Hader again was very serviceable and let Schumer shine.
The last scene was so funny that I had to stifle my laughter as I was watching this on a flight to San Francisco. All in all, I really enjoyed the story even though it's not the most original; but Schumer's comedy was.
