Ride Along 2 - Review (4/10)

Tim Story and Ride Along 2 tried to capture the small success of the original movie, but didn't seem to turn out that way.

This sequel was quite a bore as it rehashed the old plot but using some new jokes. Unfortunately, said jokes did not hit their marks. And the whole movie dragged on.

Even with expanding the cast to include Olivia Munn, Benjamin Bratt, Ken Jeong and Sherri Shepherd; these newcomers added nothing to the movie. Especially Munn, but to be fair, it was because of how the writers wrote her character in and Story never gave her character her due. She was supposed to have some chemistry going on with Ice Cube's character but it was glazed over so much that it was non-existent.

Kevin Hart this time was also not funny. I was surprised that Hart didn't improvise some lines in to make his situations funnier, or he did and they didn't work.

One realisation from this movie was that Jeong and Hart are quite similar. Their physique compliments each other well and they could potentially work together in a movie and play off each other's jokes. Hollywood should look into it.

But as a movie, it did not capture my interest and all the funniest jokes were already seen in the trailers.
