I first saw this news when I woke up this morning with a notification on my phone from the Star Wars official app.
It announced the confirmed cast for the new sequel written and directed by Rian Johnson, with a couple of additional names that has never been released before today. And to my surprise, there's a video attached to the post.
What jolted me awake from the grogginess of slumber was the first face I saw in the video. Luke Skywalker! And it looks like an actual footage that will be in Episode VIII. Just that few seconds you can tell it's Johnson's work and Mark Hamill looks intense!
There's also Daisy Ridley's Rey in the same pose as she had in the final scenes from The Force Awakens.
The cast members that will return from Episode VII are as we expected, but it's the new ones that intrigues me. Benicio Del Toro was rumoured a few months ago and he was the one and only name that we heard about joining Episode VIII.
Now, two more names have been confirmed. They are Academy Award nominee Laura Dern and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran. Dern is a great talent and definitely will elevate the scenes she is in, and I'm sure we will know more about Tran as we inch closer to Episode VIII.
