Editorial: Oscars 2016 Winners And My Reaction
The 88th Academy Awards, have come and gone; and below I've copied and pasted my predictions from back in January.
Only a few categories were updated in terms of the number of movies watched as I managed to catch Spotlight and The Danish Girl just very recently. Though I doubt I would have made a different prediction.
A few that I thought would win but actually went to my picks instead and those were nice to see. I didn't expect Mark Rylance to win but it was more of a pleasant surprise as his performance definitely was one of the greats.
I actually half expected Sylvester Stallone's name to be announced because of so much love has been pouring in over the past few weeks but that didn't happen.
I loved Chris Rock's jokes on "Oscar so white", and I thought he walked that line just right with the right kind of joke to help people get over it; though I won't be surprised if there are those who hate on him.
I wasn't so thrilled to see Sam Smith winning for Best Song though. Any other song would have been better. Plus, he sounded horrible. Probably nerves.
It's also nice to see Ex Machina winning the special effects category though I was rooting for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And what a thrill to see Mad Max almost making a sweep on the technical categories. It was well deserved.
But of course, biggest win of the night was Leonardo DiCaprio who finally wins one. And his acceptance speech was my favourite one too.
The winning entry are italicized and underlined, and I'm 5 for 10. Check them out below.
