Zootopia - Review (7.5/10)
Not even close to being one of the better Disney animated movie releases, but it still carried so much charm and engagement for the audience.
This world of Zootopia was fascinating to witness and explore. From the different sizes of doorways for the different sizes of animals to the variety of food sold for the various diets found in this world. Everything was created beautifully.
The casting of Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman could not have been a better match, especially for Bateman who was just an inspired choice with an inspired performance. His inflections were so spot on.
The rest of the cast were equally great. Idris Elba, Nate Torrence, Jenny Slate and Don Lake were my favourites. But more importantly, the story was very well written - as all Disney properties are today. The subplots and twists made the movie move at a fast pace and, even though predictable in the end, but still so entertaining to follow.
My biggest problem here was that the movie felt more like an animated movie from any other studio but Disney. Especially those like Blue Sky Studios that brings us Rio and the Ice Age series, or Warner Bros. Pictures' Happy Feet series - they usually have animals as their main cast with some song and dance sprinkled in.
But the story still stood out in the end, showing a different level of storytelling with a fantastic but subtle message about discrimination and racism.
The question now would be if Disney wants to do a sequel, or would it go straight to DVD because I don't believe this will be very memorable.
