Review: 10 Cloverfield Lane (7/10)

JJ Abrams found a perfect opportunity to slap the "Cloverfield" name into the title and he ran with it.

Developing it in secret, with the first trailer dropping just a little over a month from its release date, the shroud of secrecy once again worked wonders for the movie but at the moment still falls short of the original in terms of box office success.

The biggest star in the movie was John Goodman but Mary Elizabeth Winstead was also the reason this movie worked. But I thought Goodman has not been this good in a long time. I have never seen him this creepy. He made the movie by bringing the atmosphere. Every time he's onscreen, he brought a different layer to the film.

First-time feature director Dan Trachtenberg did wonderfully with the suspense and the creepy atmosphere, with elements of horror once in a while. I would love to see more from him.

My only concern, like most of everyone else, was with the ending. I couldn't help wondering if this movie might have been better had it not been a Cloverfield-relative. It could have been a brilliant standalone psychological thriller.

But seeing as it is, I believe if Abrams decides to make another one, it will definitely jump back into a Cloverfield sequel as the foundation has been set.
