Review: The Huntsman: Winter's War (4/10)

Also known as, Frozen: The Live-Action Movie. Get it? Two sisters, one of which gets the power of ice early on, proceeds to wear a light-blue winter-formal and freezes her opponents when in battle.

In reality though, this was a messy foray, filled with inconsistent pacing and verged on committing false marketing.

I don't blame the trailers, not entirely anyway; because this wasn't the easiest trailer to cut. Not unless they don't use certain star power to promote the movie.

Which led me to believe that had this movie not have the brand name of The Huntsman attached to it, it could have taken a different direction and may have ended up a more competent movie.

The only consolation here was the aforementioned star power: Chris Hemsworth, Jessica Chastain, Emily Blunt and Charlize Theron. But even so, nothing from the script really require some serious acting, so the four big names brought in were just to sell tickets.

Also, Hemsworth and Chastain's take on the accent were horrible. Moreover, the accent was present only in the beginning, and then nothing after.

The supporting cast led by Nick Frost interested me more. Their characters were more fun and entertaining, and I liked that element of forming a fellowship for the quest ahead, much like Lord Of The Rings. Unfortunately, the script didn't allow much development for any of them.

Even the final fight had too many holes in the plot points to be enjoyable. This movie was purely a cash grab and it probably will make some profit because of its marketing.
