Twentieth Century Fox is expanding its X-Universe as quickly as they can, and it's a wise move after the huge success of Deadpool.
According to IGN's interview with producer Simon Kinberg, The New Mutants is way into development with writer-director Josh Boone. What's interesting to note as well is that Kinberg described this new spin-off as having a "young adult vibe" to it, which may also be the reason why Boone is attached, right after his runaway success The Fault In Our Stars.
There has also been rumours that Maisie Williams from "Game Of Thrones" is signed on to play Wolfsbane while this year's horror hit The Witch star, Anya Taylor-Joy, is signed on to play Magick who is Colossus' younger sister; which means Taylor-Joy will need to pick up a thick Russian accent.
It is also rumoured that some of the more established characters like Professor Xavier, Magneto, Kitty Pryde, Sunspot and Warpath - both of which also appeared in Days Of Future Past; as well as their new leading character, Deadpool.
Since the main X-Men movies will conclude its trilogy this May, and Gambit is still up in the air, and there are currently three placeholder dates in the next two years; one of them could be for The New Mutants.
Here are my guesses:
6 October 2017 The New Mutants (if it's not Gambit)
12 January 2018 Deadpool 2
13 July 2018 X- Force
Yes, I'm putting The New Mutants down for next year because, and this is if the rumours above are true; why cast Williams and Taylor-Joy now if they are not making the movie because these two young actors are still growing and they may outgrow their age for The New Mutants.
But of course I could be completely wrong and next year could very well be X-Force or Gambit instead. Only Fox knows the answer, or they may even not know it just yet.
