Editorial: Simon Kinberg Says Next X-Movie Will Be In 90's
Following the X-Men trilogy, First Class was set in the 60's, Days Of Future Past was in the 70's, and the upcoming Apocalypse will be in the 80's. This trend will see the next one in the 90's.
This is recently confirmed by ComingSoon.net when they interviewed producer Simon Kinberg at a press junket for Apocalypse.
However, what the website failed to confirm was whether Kinberg meant X-Men 4, which director Bryan Singer has already shown interest in returning to in a couple of years time and after a little break; or did he meant the upcoming Josh Boone spin-off, The New Mutants.
I have already made my guess that the next X-movie is going to be The New Mutants with a release date of 6 October 2017, which will be set in the 90's if - and this is a significant if - the New Mutant member Sunspot is the same Sunspot that appeared in Days Of Future Past.
Twentieth Century Fox isn't shy about forgoing continuity while making the next movie but if they were to follow the age range of Sunspot in Days Of Future Past, that would mean in The New Mutant, this Sunspot would have to be a teenager. In turn meaning The New Mutants will have to be set in the 90's in order for Sunspot's age to make sense.
I know this is too minute a detail for Fox to keep inline with given that they have retconned bigger events like the return of Professor Xavier, but it does make sense.
So let's see which X-movie will come out next and if I'm right about Sunspot.
