[Review] Me Before You (5.5/10)
Going into Me Before You, I was really hoping that it would be another The Fault In Our Stars. But it was nowhere near it, unfortunately.
The trailers also showed the weakness of the movie which I was hoping wasn't the case, but we're getting what we saw.
The director Thea Sharrock, as her directorial debut, could have done better in the overall pacing; especially the second act. While I appreciated how every scene was building onto the ending, I still found myself wondering when the movie was going to end.
I also disliked very much when we're taking into the home of Emilia Clarke's character. The way it was directed was very old school and very amateurish, which took me out of the story immediately.
Also, the continuity of that character, coming from a not so well-to-do family; she seemed to have a lot of shoes and clothes, and my mind kept interrupting my enjoyment of the movie because I kept thinking how could she have afforded them.
While Sam Claflin is easily the strongest performer here, I found it a little difficult to get behind his character because of his background and how he just wanted to end his life instead of doing something meaningful with it.
Even until right now, I'm still not sure if I can see it his way because I can't imagine myself in his position. So this also didn't help the movie's cause.
As for Clarke, it's good that this role showed her range where she's not just the tough characters like in "Game Of Thrones" or Terminator: Genysis. But I thought she over-acted the whole thing, especially her forehead and eyebrows.
If you can buy into the story and the characters, it would be a good movie for you. But I wasn't won over.
