Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim sequel, currently subtitled Maelstrom, continues its casting and according to Variety, Legendary Pictures has cast newcomer and pop singer Cailee Spaeny as the female lead.
I have no idea who Spaeny is but she will play opposite John Boyega, who has taken over lead actor duties from Charlie Hunnam. Boyega will be playing the son of Idris Elba's character from the first movie, and will definitely give this movie a boost in star power.
The sequel will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight and is scheduled to be released on 23 February 2018.
