Michael Giacchino Takes Over As Composer For Star Wars' Rogue One

A surprise announcement came out today as The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Academy Award composer Michael Giacchino has taken over for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Giacchino has suddenly replaced fellow Academy Award composer Alexandre Desplat, who has been attached to the project since the beginning. And I'm very surprised that this swap comes with only a few months left before the movie's release date of 16 December 2016.

Nobody in their right mind would leave a Star Wars project at a time like this. But the report stated that due to all the re-shoots of the movie, Desplat now has a scheduling conflict. With which of his upcoming projects, that information isn't disclosed. But again, this isn't just any other movie, you would work your schedule around Star Wars if need be.

Nevertheless, it's good news for Giacchino, who was speculated to score for Star Wars: The Force Awakens because he has been a long-time working partner of director J.J. Abrams. But that didn't happen because original composer for the franchise, John Williams, has first dibs.
