[Review] Sully (7/10)

With the prospect of Clint Eastwood directing Tom Hanks, as a movie, Sully was probably very easy to market.

But after watching it, I thought this was also an opportunity lost even though the overall movie was very decent. It even made me teared up a couple of times with Hanks once again giving another wonderful performance.

I thought the running time of only 96 minutes was a wise decision but even then it felt a bit long. The first half of the movie was somewhat uneventful. Hanks' character already mentioned, twice, that the actual event was only 208 seconds, so to do a movie was a literal stretch.

Especially when the movie flashed back to the younger days of Sully, it was quite unnecessary and dragged a little. But if anyone was to make it work, it would be Eastwood.

Also there's a great supporting performance by Aaron Eckhart who stole scenes from Hanks a few times. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a nomination at next year's Oscars. I also liked Mike O'Malley and Anna Gunn's performances playing the opposite side of things, to make their case believable under such circumstances.

At the end of it, it was a very satisfying and enjoyable experience that no one in the cinema left their seats early as pictures of the actual event were rolling beside the credits.
