For a movie that's coming out in just a few weeks, the marketing is sure taking its sweet time. Either Paramount Pictures is very confident with the name of Martin Scorsese, or post-production has taken longer than expected.
Silence's first trailer shows once again the greatness of Scorsese. And not just the visuals, which look fantastic with each frame, but also the portrayals of the characters by three leads of the movie - Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson.
I wouldn't be surprised if all three get award considerations, especially for Garfield and Driver who have a few lines in this trailer. Driver looks like he has lost a lot of muscle from Star Wars: The Force Awakens to play this role.
Another thing that I'll be looking out for is that of the ancient Japanese culture which has an influence on Scorsese. The Asian cinema has helped Scorsese win his first and only Academy Award for Best Direction so far. Could this be the second?
Silence will get a limited release on 23 December 2016, just before the year ends to qualify for the awards season; and then wide release in January 2017.
