[Review] Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (3/10)
Half of the reason why Whiskey Tango Foxtrot performed so badly at the box office and my rating here has to be because it was marketed as a comedy. It wasn't a comedy. It was more of a drama that has comedy in it.
The other half of the reason? This was poorly directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Reque. A real shame because it's the same duo that brought us Crazy, Stupid, Love; which now seems like a fluke because they are now on a downward trajectory with Focus in between the two.
It wasn't easy to follow the story. Half the time I didn't know what was going on and I thought it got too political when I expected comedy. The pacing sometimes was just too slow and there was never a pay off at the end or anywhere else. The second act went downhill so much that the third act couldn't recover (or didn't even try).
Margot Robbie's star power couldn't save this movie because she wasn't in it all that much. And Tina Fey can't lead a drama just yet. Martin Freeman was the only one that interested me but it was too little too late.
And talk about wrong marketing, why is the name even WTF? Makes no sense.
