[Review] Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (5.5/10)
Will Paul W. S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich really let this Resident Evil be The Final Chapter? Even the Saw franchise, after Saw 3D: The Final Chapter (notice the same subtitle), is bringing another sequel to the silver screen after a seven-year hiatus.
Out of most of the sequels that I can recall, The Final Chapter has the most plot. Meaning the story is the most enjoyable to follow for this movie.
As opposed to Kate Beckinsale bringing us another Underworld this year, which was completely bland; I found Resident Evil more palatable. I do prefer zombies to vampires and werewolves so I could be biased here.
But what Anderson does well with the mutated monsters here, his action sequences were really underwhelming and left a lot to be desired. All of the sequences were done with shaky camera and very quick edits. Everything was left to our imagination as nothing was clear onscreen.
It was also a bit baffling why this is called The Final Chapter. The ending was not a closed ending at all. There was still a big opening for a continuation; which left me to conclude that Jovovich may have had enough of portraying Alice and finally moving on.
The question, though, is to what; since she has not done anything memorable outside of this franchise.
